Hi there! My name is Annie Cavalier, and I am a junior at the University of Texas studying nutrition and dietetics. With this blog, I hope to share with you some of the things I have learned so that you may make small changes towards living your own healthful life.
I guess I should start off by explaining my own beliefs about health and what it means to live a healthful life. While I primarily study nutrition, I don't believe that eating healthy food is the only thing necessary in order to be healthy, and I definitely don't believe in "dieting".
In my opinion, health is a lifestyle. It not only includes feeding your body with nutrients, but it also requires staying active and finding balance for your mind , body, and spirit. Being healthy requires taking a holistic approach to your entire life. Does this mean that you have to deprive yourself of all your favorite guilty pleasures? Absolutely not. I am a firm believer in the 80% healthy - 20% indulgent rule, and it is something I have followed for several years now. True health requires balance, and it is important to make adjustments where needed so that things can fit in with your own unique needs and life.
In this blog, I will not only be sharing nutritional information, but will also share advice on staying fit, some of my favorite places to travel, being present in the moment, and living your life full of gratitude.
I have so many exciting things planned that I can't wait to share with you. In just a few days I will be headed to Italy for a study abroad program (is there any better place to study food than Italy?), and I plan on sharing as much of my experience there as I can.
