Hot Apple Cider

If you ask me, nothing is better on a cold day than having a steaming mug of hot apple cider. All of the healthy, warming spices really get me in the mood for fall and winter. I created this recipe because so many of the store-bought apple ciders are incredibly high in sugar because they are made from concentrated apple juice and have brown sugar in them. My recipe is made using fresh apples and contains no added sugars! This drink is super easy to make and is the perfect healthy addition to your holiday season! I hope you love it as much as I do!

Hot Apple Cider

Serves: 7-8

Time: 90 minutes

Ingredients:

10 red delicious apples, quartered

1/2 orange, thinly sliced

4 cinnamon sticks

2 star anise

1 inch piece of ginger, peeled and thinly sliced

1 Tbsp whole cloves

Directions:

  1. Add the apples, cinnamon sticks, star anise, ginger, and whole cloves to a large pot, and fill with enough water to cover the apples (approximately one gallon).

  2. Bring the water to a boil, and allow it to boil uncovered for one hour. Stir occasionally.

  3. Add the orange slices. Cover and reduce to a simmer for 20 minutes.

  4. Remove from heat and strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve. Serve hot.
